Andrea Beca - Andrea Beca

Andrea has a BA (distinction) in English and Creative Writing from the University of Alberta, and an MLitt (distinction) in Dramaturgy and Playwriting from the University of Glasgow. She has written, directed, and produced four of her own stage plays, and is always planning her next projects. (Check out Cowardly Kiss Theatre on Facebook.)

Andrea has been published in Odeum (Ontario) and FreeFall Magazine (Calgary), and has been nominated for numerous writing awards, the most recent being The Writers' Trust of Canada/McClelland & Stewart Journey Prize. While her main focus is drama, Andrea is also a frequent writer of short fiction and creative non-fiction.

In addition to writing, Andrea is also a lover of film (favourite genres/types: World Cinema (Scottish, Irish, French, Japanese, South American, and Danish especially) and Horror films, especially 50s B-Movies), learning languages (next on the list: refining her Irish and starting on Japanese), and cooking (vegan/vegetarian). She collects tattoos and antique copies of Oscar Wilde's works; she has an uncanny memory for faces and names; she likes things weird and different; she thinks Tom Waits is a genius; her favourite book is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
